    Description

    1986 Jeep CJ7
    V8 (Chevrolet 350), Rough Country Lift/Suspension
    Licensed & Road Worthy
Thanks for checking out my 1986 Jeep CJ7 which I purchased in December 2017. I usually drive it once or twice a month during the spring and summer months. Overall, it’s a fun little buggy to drive around in, but I simply don’t spend enough time with it to justify keeping it. I have included a link to a Microsoft OneDrive folder which has 100+ photos. Below are my quick thoughts, but if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to mention them.

    The Good
    ·
Chevrolet 350 V8 Engine – The conversion was done before my ownership; therefore, I am uncertain how many miles are on the engine. I was able to confirm the engine is a Chevy 350 by the stamped engine block number which is 14101148.
    ·
Frame – the frame is in really good condition considering its age. Although there is some surface rust, the frame is structurally strong and sound.
    ·
Rough Country Suspension – This was also done before my ownership. From the looks, I believe a previous owner installed Rough Country’s 2.5-inch lift kit.
    ·
Fiberglass Cab Cover – The cover is in good condition with only two hairline cracks present between the door and side windows one on each side.
    ·
Seats have been reupholstered and are in good condition.
    ·
Ready to be Licensed – Passed Missouri’s state inspection in March and is road worthy.
    ·
    New Parts
    o
    Steering Box
    o
    Exhaust and muffler
    o
    Spark plug wires
    o
    Tie rod end and sleeve
    o
Quick detach carbon fiber steering wheel.
    o
Mickey Thompson tires. These were installed before my ownership, but they are in great condition with a lot of life left.
    The Bad
    ·
The Tub – Both floorboards are rusted with the passenger floorboard having rusted through. Each rear wheel well also has rusted through cracks along the front seam. To help fully disclose the tub’s condition, I have included pictures with measurements of these areas, and would highly recommend you refer to them.
    ·
Low Compression Test – The engine does burn some oil when revving. Last week, I performed a compression test, and cylinder one read 80 psi. I was surprised by the low reading considering the Jeep pulls and accelerates well, and the only indication/reason to perform the compression test was a faint blue smoke from the exhaust.
    ·
Paint – The original paint color was white, and it was painted dark green before I purchased it. The paint on the hood and fenders is crackling, and you can see the original paint underneath a small area of the hood (refer to pictures). Overall, the paint looks goods six feet away, but up close you begin to see blemishes.
    ·
Transmission – At a complete stop, when downshifting from 3
    rd
    or 4
    th
    down to 1
    st
, the transmission can grind. I have learned that if I shift down to 2
    nd
    then into 1
    st
    the transmission then shifts smoothly.
    The Unknown
    ·
4x4 All Wheel Drive – I have not attempted to engage the 4x4 all-wheel drive system since I have not taken it off road.
