Willie's interview in GQ yielded this iconic photo of the "Pot King" in his tour bus firing one up with a tray of freshly cleaned cannabis on his table.
GQ said the number of joints Willie had smoked in that tour bus was "incalculable." The superstar who advocates legalizing pot and claims his long life is due to marijuana and swears we would all live longer if we followed his lead and smoked dope didn't sign many of these photos, but my dad knew Willie well. My dad was the premier GOLD & PLATINUM awards maker for Music Row for 50 years and Willie, Waylon, George Jones, Kris and virtually every country star in the business spent time in his workshop shooting the bull or picking up awards or framing work he did for the industry. He didn't miss many Friday's or Saturday's at the Opry either and would take stacks of photos and coerce the celebs into the breakroom backstage into sitting down and signing loads of his collections.
I inherited his vast estate when he passed in January, 2016, and a stack of these very rare "Willie and His Pot Tray" photos is one of the treasures. I list new items frequently, including many of the leftover GOLD & PLATINUM awards. He amassed an amazing 5,000 individual and large collections of awards, hand-signed photos, record labels, signed albums, and other items he received from the record label companies when they needed new awards made as albums became certified GOLD or PLATINUM. All awards and hand-signed items come with a COA simply authenticating the provenance as originating from "The Kittinger Estate" which is legendary on Music Row in Nashville.
